Carla is still in Washington. It has been harder on Jeff this time around, trying to run the whole ministry on his own.
Baby Joseph is improving slowly but steadily.
Sadly, Baby Richard passed away after being very sick for a little more than two weeks.
Jeff was arrested last week.

Carla is back in Kenya. 41 of the children tested positive for tuberculosis even though they seemed healthy; no cough, no fever, no physical signs whatsoever. A ministry partner from New York named Ron is out in the "bush" showing the Jesus film. A lady recogized Mode while he was at the hospital being tested fot TB. Please pray for the quick and smooth finalization of the purchase of the adjacent 10 acres!

2009-03-04
The adjacent 10 acres we've been leasing is now ours!
Ron has returned from the ?bush? with lots of stories about his adventures.
Two more kids came this week: Edith & David Maziwa. Two nights ago, Joshua got a high fever that absolutely would not come down! (He's doing better now.)
We can?t wait any longer for a chicken house, if we don?t want to lose the start of a great poultry project!
Future project we are looking into: a fish farm project, more housing and a clinic.

2009-03-10 -- Project 57
The current hand dug well does not provide enough for the Childrens Home during the dry season. Making expansion and new projects unthinkable.
Enter...Ryan from a ministry called Love Mercy.

2009-03-10 -- Project 57 Challenge
A matching fund challenge for Project 57.

2009-03-18
Project 57 is underway! Once completed the projects planned for the water include a water supply for the local community and a fish farm. The Poultry Project is coming along. Crops are being planted. A TB update.

2009-04-01
Updates on Project 57 & the chicken coop. We're tiling the verandah & guest rooms! The kids are doing well. Sylvia may go back to her parents.

Our visitors, Linda and Kim, are painting a mural called ?The Dance of His Never Ending Love?. We are still waiting for our pump! Two new boys came this week! Francis and Isaiah. The Kenyan Railroad is reclaiming it's land in Kitale. Asking for traveling graces for missionary friends, Bob and LuAnn.

2009-05-05
Not enough rain for this time of year, but enough to turn things green. It is so much fun having Linda around! Carla sprained her ankle. The pump has been installed on the borehole! We have the fish farm set up! Welcome Melisa to the home! As most of you know, Carla will be home by this time next week for the birth of another granddaughter and will return to Kenya in the middle of June! Jeff will get his chance to come home in September.

Carla is in Washington for the birth of their third grandgirl. Welcome Jonathon & Benson. Good news for baby Joseph. Project 57: water tanks are on order & the fish hatchery is progressing. Next big project: more dorms - we're running out of sleeping room for the kids! Things are looking really good for James to be accepted as a Shriner?s patient to fix his legs!

2009-06-14
Carla has returned to Kenya safely. We have running water! The garden is growing well now that the rains have some. The kids seem to be doing well. Carla is meeting some new kids (Jonathon, Ann & Benson) that arrived while she was in the US. And tells us about two (Pat & Van) that came and were returned to their mother before she got to meet tham

Rain! Our three field workers were caught stealing maize out of the storage building. The first of a string of mission teams and visitors will be arriving in a few days! The kids are doing well! Thursday we will take David back to court for the fourth week in a row.

2009-07-21
What a great time we have had with our visitors: Denise, Amy and Addie! Last Wednesday was immunization day. Jeff and I also had to be in court with Baby Anne last Wednesday. We had our first monthly birthday party! What a blast! From now on, every second Saturday of the month will be birthday party day! We are still working on getting travel documents for James. Jeff the great-grandson of David Livingstone? Carla asks for prayer for the finances...donations are down while food prices have sky-rocketed.

2009-08-03
We have James' birth certificate...next his passport.
Attended a meeting regarding programs for children who are "in cells" (kids who have been arrested.)
The next Mission Team will arrive Wednesday. On the agenda: school.
Plans are progressing for the fish farm.
We have a new baby boy! Welcome - Micah Kilima.

The Gutzmers have arrived safely. The New Covenant Church team from New York has returned home after teaching our teachers to be more creative in the classroom, giving violin concerts, and playing with the kids. Darin from back home will be coming to work with us for a year or so! Welcome to sisters to the Home: Monicah-5 and Violet-2! Our oxygen tank has saved another life. Jeff and I are taking a much needed 6-day break TOGETHER and will write when we get back from safari.
